Clipboard Terminal Tools

The clipboard is the buffer an operating system uses to move text and images between programs. On Linux it belongs to the display server, with separate selections under X11 and Wayland, while macOS and Windows each provide their own.

 

Clipboard tools in the terminal copy command output into the system clipboard and paste it back into a pipeline, keep a searchable history of past entries, and forward the clipboard over an SSH connection or a multiplexer session so a remote shell can copy to the machine in front of you.
