Record and transcribe audio from meetings locally in the terminal.

nastro is a terminal audio recorder that records and transcribes meetings on macOS.

It uses the system audio and microphone as audio input and transcribes recordings on-device using WhisperX (default transcription engine) or whisper.cpp. It also produces speaker labeled transcripts with subtitled compatible (.srt) timestamps.

This tool also supports headless recording, stopping and saving recordings, filtering and keybindings to navigate the TUI. If a crash were to ever occur on your machine during a meeting or a call while recording, nastro still produces a valid audio file while keeping the audio transcribed.

Those that are developers, researchers, and interviewers can use nastro when they want to locally record, transcribe and meetings without needing to use a meeting bot.
