sektron is a keyboard-controlled MIDI step sequencer for composing patterns in the terminal.
It supports up to ten tracks that can be attached to a specific MIDI device and with up to 128 steps per track, meaning that it can handles many complex polyrhythms. It also sends each track to a chosen MIDI device and channel, with parameters set per track or step.
Pattern chaining lets you build longer arrangements, with up to 64 patterns loaded at once. Sektron also has powerful key mappings defaults and works well with QWERTY / AZERTY layout arrangements with Mac keyboard compatibility. Custom key patterns can also be saved to a JSON file when you switch patterns or need to customize the keys and take effect on restarting sektron.
This tool is primarily for electronic musicians, that use hardware sequencers that need a minimalist MIDI sequencer that composes patterns and instruments while writing music or performing live.
