Terminal-based Docker image layer inspector.

image preview of layerx

layerx is a terminal-based docker image layer inspector for exploring inside of container images or compressed archives.

It is able to inspect OCI-compatible images directly and in a compressed archive format, the left-hand pane shows the sequential layer commands that were applied to the image for easier debugging. You can compare between changed files, or entire images which is useful for tracking changes when updating container images.

It supports traditional vim-style key-bindings, with search functionality and you can directly extract files on to the disk. Wasted files can be revealed in the image to show which files take up the most space inside of the file tree viewer.

layerx is useful for engineers and system administrators in DevOps, container orchestration and security who need to inspect container images for analyzing file changes or size differences before and after significant changes.
