Terminal Music Players

Music playback in the terminal runs from small players that read a folder of files, to clients for the Music Player Daemon (MPD), to front ends for streaming services.

 

These players handle local libraries in formats such as MP3, FLAC and Ogg Vorbis, read tags, manage playlists and queues, and often draw a visualizer or album art in the terminal. They work over SSH and on machines with no desktop environment, which is how many people play music on a home server.
